Our Mission

To provide practical legal solutions that empower our clients to make informed decisions — without unnecessary complexity, confusion, or cost.

Checks and Balances Law is established to provide seamless, meaningful and excellent legal services. Our principles are simple:

Meaningful

Clients must always be better off at the end of their matter, which means if legal costs are going to outweigh the benefits, we will be upfront about this.

Efficient

We use technology to make our services consistently good and fast.

Excellent

We keep on top of legal developments and invest in continuous education to make sure our advice remains accurate and relevant.

Accessible

We are also very aware that legal mumbo jumbo can be overwhelming, that is why we use charts and visuals for some matters. For example, if you have a litigation matter, we will give you a complimentary visual presentation to outline the steps, costs and timeline.

Mana Marnani

Principal Lawyer

Mana Ghadirian Marnani has close to 10 years of experience working in the legal field and has built a strong reputation for handling complex and sensitive legal matters with skill, strategy and determination.

She holds a graduate legal degree from overseas with a strong background in civil law and international law, and later completed her Australian legal qualification before continuing her legal career in Australia. During her university studies she represented Iran in international legal competitions, including the Henry Dunant International Humanitarian Law Competition, where her team received multiple international awards.

Mana’s practice focuses primarily on Family Law and complex dispute resolution. She has also advised on contracts and commercial matters, including disputes involving sale of business agreements, retail leases and commercial transactions. Her background allows her to approach legal problems not only from a legal perspective but also with a strong understanding of business, property and financial structures.

She is known for resolving disputes that others consider extremely difficult. In the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia matter of Ubina & Szwed, she successfully challenged and overturned orders requiring indefinite supervised contact, achieving a significantly fairer outcome for her client. In a long running dispute against a regional council, she helped resolve a conflict that had continued for many years, restoring a workable relationship between the parties through effective dispute resolution.

Mana is particularly proud that approximately 95 percent of her matters resolve without the need for a final court hearing. Her approach focuses on preparation, strategic negotiation and practical solutions that allow clients to resolve disputes efficiently while avoiding the financial and emotional cost of prolonged litigation.

Outside the office, Mana enjoys painting and playing basketball, two hobbies that reflect both her creative and competitive sides. She is also a movie buff. Those who know Mana describe her as energetic, approachable and genuinely easy to talk to. Behind the serious legal work is someone who enjoys life, values relationships and brings the same level of passion and authenticity to her personal life as she does to her work.
